It might be the biggest compliment anybody has paid to the new-look Brooklyn Nets after their trade for James Harden earlier this season that the first thing LeBron James brought up when asked about them is arguably the most dominant perimeter trio the game has ever seen. It’s an even greater compliment when you consider the first thing that came to mind when talking about the nets was a team that cost him two championships.
The Golden State Warriors trio of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Kevin Durant was the first thing that LeBron James brought up when asked about whether the talent on hand for the Nets, who feature Durant, Harden, and LeBron’s former Cavs teammate Kyrie Irving, is unprecedented.
“Um, have we forgot about KD, Steph (Curry) and Klay (Thompson) already?” James said on Thursday, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. “I mean, there you go. There you go right there.”
While James is clearly defending the honor of a team that took some titles off of him, it’s also a compliment to the Nets roster construction that it’s the Warriors that come to mind for LeBron when he thinks of them. The Nets also look like a different team after Irving publicly declared James Harden as the team’s point guard.
While the Nets won’t have Durant on Thursday night, Harden showed in Tuesday night’s win in Phoenix that the Nets have plenty of scoring to win with the best of them, even without Kevin Durant.
