LeBron James chosen by ESPN as No. 1 star that defined decade

It wasn’t even close, nor should it have been when ESPN debated who the best player of the last decade was in the National Basketball Association. As part of their decade-themed coverage this week, ESPN revealed their top-three of the superstar players who defined the decade, with LeBron James at the top of the list.

James, who won three championships and three MVP awards in the decade, was joined on the list by Golden State’s Stephen Curry and now Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant. Below are three facts from ESPN’s Kirk Goldsberry that illustrate LeBron’s hold over the last decade of pro basketball.

  • He led all scorers this decade … by a lot
  • He ranked fourth in total assists and 10th in total rebounds
  • He was the only player in the top 10 in points, rebounds and assists

LeBron has been the most prolific player of the decade and even though he had a few stumbles in the NBA Finals, he still went to the Finals in eight of the 10 Finals in the 2010s. And remarkably enough, he’s still putting up insane numbers to this day and has a great chance to continue to add to his iconic legacy in just over a month when the 2019-20 season begins.
