LeBron James celebrates Cyntoia Brown’s release from prison: ‘Welcome home’

LeBron James very famously does not stick to sports and with some big national news coming on Wednesday with the release of Cyntoia Brown, he celebrated her release and welcomed her home.

Brown, who was an alleged victim of sex trafficking, was sentenced to life in prison after killing a man when she was 16 years old. Brown, 31, has spent nearly half of her life in custody and her case was raised nationally by celebrities like LeBron, Kim Kardashian West and Snoop Dogg.

James was one of several famous voices who supported Brown after many saw the sentence she served to be wrong after she was both allegedly trafficked as a child and was threatened. Here’s what our partners at the Nashville Tennessean had to say about the case and Brown’s release.

In the years leading to her release, Brown’s complicated story also has served to rally lawmakers, juvenile justice reformers and critics of Tennessee’s unusually harsh life sentences for teens, those working to expose child sex trafficking and others highlighting racial inequities in the justice system.
