LeBron James calls on NCAA to create national policy after California bill passes

LeBron James is calling out the NCAA after the NCAA’s Board of Governors urged California governor Gavin Newsom not to sign the Fair Pay to Play Act that was passed by the the California Assembly earlier this week.

James called out  the NCAA for their response, asking the organization to create a national policy that would allow collegiate athletes to to profit off of their likeness, which the Fair Pay to Play Act is proposing to put into law in 2023, if signed by Governor Newsom.

James, who was part of the last generations of NBA players in order to go to the league straight from high school, has long been a critic of the NCAA and how it restricts the ability of athletes to profit off of their likeness. James himself has joked that “wouldn’t have been poor for long” if he had actually chosen to go to college, but he’s been working for a while to help raise awareness about the struggles of the rank and file college athlete.
