LeBron James blasts the NCAA after its new agent criteria targeted Rich Paul

As is the case with most of the NCAA’s decisions, Tuesday’s news of a reformed agent criteria had sports fans furious at the NCAA.

And now, LeBron James has checked in with a response.

Basically, the NCAA had announced changes to its approved agent criteria.

NBA Draft-declared players are now allowed to hire agents in an advisor role and still preserve their NCAA eligibility. That criteria included an educational requirement of a Bachelor’s degree, which Rich Paul — LeBron’s agent and Klutch Sports Group founder — doesn’t have.

It was a not-so-subtle attempt to shut the most powerful NBA agent out of the NCAA’s world, and sports fans blasted the organization for that. LeBron’s response, in particular, was great. He called out the NCAA for what it is … scared.

The rule, which required a Bachelor’s degree, had quickly been dubbed “The Rich Paul Rule” because there would be no other reason behind an educational requirement.

LeBron has been an outspoken critic of the NCAA, and this only adds fuel to that fire. Back in 2018, LeBron called the NCAA “corrupt” amid the FBI scandal.

There’s little chance that his opinion of the NCAA will change anytime soon.
