The weather is finally starting to turn and while LeBron James has been enjoying the final moments of his longest offseason in over a decade, training camp for the National Basketball Association is just around the corner. And while players around the league start getting together, the Los Angeles Lakers will be getting together next week for a week of get-to-know-you activities in Las Vegas.
LeBron James and the Lakers will head to Vegas for a series of informal workouts and team activities off the court starting next Tuesday, September 22 until the even of camp on September 26, according to Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times.
Of the 20 players currently on the Lakers roster, the maximum that you can carry during the training camp portion of the season, only six of them, LeBron James, Rajon Rondo, Kyle Kuzma, Alex Caruso, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and JaVale McGee, were on the team last year.
So with 70% of the training camp participants not knowing each other, the hope is clearly that they can shorten the learning curve for everyone ahead of a hugely important season. The Lakers are currently +400 to win the 2020 NBA Championship, according to BetMGM, the second favorite just behind the neighboring L.A. Clippers (+325).
The Lakers will also have a much more eventful preseason this year, which could help them form a bond quicker. After they play their first preseason game in the first week of October, they will head to China for a two-game exhibition series against Kyrie Irving and the Brooklyn Nets.
