LeBron James and Cavaliers family saddened by passing of broadcaster Fred McLoed

The NBA and Cleveland Cavaliers lost a member of their family suddenly on Monday night when Cavaliers play-by-play broadcaster Fred McLoed passed away suddenly on Monday night, the team announced on Tuesday.

McLoed was 67 and had been the team’s play-by-play man since 2006. Among the members of the Cavaliers family mourning the loss of McLoed was LeBron James, who was stunned by the news.

LeBron also found a video that was shared shortly after the news broke from McLoed’s call of Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals, which LeBron and the Cavs won. In the video, McLoed is overcome by emotion making the radio call alongside his broadcast partner Austin Carr. LeBron wanted to make sure his audience saw the moment that meant a lot to him, involving the guy who called more of his games than any other broadcaster in his career.

McLoed and Carr have been one of the most recognizable play-by-play duos in the NBA since teaming up in 2006. And as someone who came to enjoy them a lot over recent years, I’ll miss seeing them on my League Pass.
