LeBron James and Anthony Davis ‘unlikely’ to play in all scrimmages

As the Los Angeles Lakers are figuring out their plans for the next few weeks, leading up to their NBA Restart opener on July 30 against the Los Angeles Clippers. Even once the Lakers start games that count against their regular-season record, we still don’t know how they will approach those games. As far as the three scrimmage games leading up to the eight seeding games, the Lakers do have a pretty clear idea that they won’t have their stars play in all three of those.

Lakers head coach Frank Vogel told reporters on Friday that he doesn’t believe Anthony Davis and LeBron James will appear on the court for all three of the scrimmages, but that they’re still discussing their ultimate plan of action, according to Tania Ganguli of the Los Angeles Times.

Vogel said during Thursday’s conference call with reporters that he believes LeBron James hasn’t demonstrated any rust in his first official practices with the Lakers. Given that, there’s little need to overextend him in games that won’t count at all.
