LeBron James and Anthony Davis became the first Los Angeles Lakers teammates to combine for 70+ points in consecutive games since Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal accomplished the feat back in 2003. During a 142-125 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves that improved L.A.’s record to 21-3 on the season, Davis led all scorers with a 50-piece to go along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Meanwhile, LeBron scored 32 of his own against the T-Wolves while dishing out 13 dimes to give the superstar duo for the Lakers 82 points on the night. On Friday, James scored 31 during a 136-113 win over the Portland Trail Blazers while A.D. poured in 39 for an even 70 between them. The next game for Los Angeles is a matchup with the Orlando Magic on Wednesday in Florida where James and Davis will look to extend their streak.
So far this season, Davis is averaging 27.7 points which ranks No. 6 in scoring in the NBA. He’s also collecting nine rebounds per contest and blocking nearly three shots. LeBron continues to lead the NBA in assists with 10.8 per night while scoring 25.9 points following the win against Minnesota.
The Lakers moved a half-game ahead of the Milwaukee Bucks in the standings with their latest win and now own the best record in the NBA overall. Pretty solid start to the season for two guys who have a chance to win MVP and a team that looks destined to play deep into the summer.
