LeBron after 36-point outburst vs. Bulls: ‘I live being professional’

The Lakers are cutting LeBron James’ minutes and the team is almost guaranteed to miss the postseason for the sixth straight season. Several Lakers fans have already set their eyes on Zion Williamson jersey swaps.

But in the games James does play, he’s still going to want to win, thus, hurting the Lakers’ chances of a high lottery pick. Even though this season hasn’t gone as planned, James remains a professional and a winner. It’s not just something he can turn off because his team had a disappointing season.

From ESPN’s Dave McMenamin:

“I don’t talk about [being professional]. That’s what I live,” James said. “You guys ask me questions, I answer questions, but I live being professional. I live playing every game like it’s my last. No matter what’s going on. You finish out strong. That’s just who I am.”

Obviously, some would note that James’ brand of professionalism isn’t always what it seems. And, sometimes, his version of professionalism can end up running counter to a team’s goals, such as the failed Anthony Davis saga this winter.

Nevertheless, James, the player, is still likely the most consistent player in NBA history and that’s not something that can easily change. While Lakers fans are hoping for Williamson, LeBron is still looking to win games this season.

The Lakers are expected to hold James out of back-to-back games for the rest of the season. They have one starting Thursday in Toronto before heading to Detroit on Friday.
