The Lebanese authorities enforced the implementation of the Ministry of Interior’s decision to tighten the curfew, as 14 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed on Monday.
In a decree on Sunday, the Interior Ministry laid out rules when cars, public vehicles and trucks can be driven based on their plate number.
Vehicles with plate numbers ending with an odd number are allowed on the street on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays while those with plate numbers ending with an even number (including zero) are allowed on only Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. All vehicle circulation is prohibited on Sunday.
The Internal Security Forces set up checkpoints on highways and city entrances, and patrolled villages and neighborhoods to ensure the implementation of the general mobilization law.
Meanwhile, Lebanon is preparing to receive additional inbound aircraft on Tuesday, carrying nationals returning from Kinshasa, Madrid, Italy and Istanbul.
The Ministry of Public Health announced that the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases reached 541, including 14 new ones registered on Monday.
The ministry noted that no cases were recorded among the expatriates who returned from Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Lagos and the Ivory Coast on evacuation flights on Sunday.
Foreign Minister Nassif Hitti described the first stage of repatriation as “successful”, indicating that the ministry’s plan would be reviewed in detail to improve the steps with the arrival of other aircraft this week.
