Lebanon’s Interior Minister Visits Dar al-Fatwa, Says Mufti's Support Strengthens the Government

Interior Minister Mohammed Fahmi visits Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdullatif Derian (NNA).

Lebanon’s Interior Minister Mohammed Fahmi underlined the important role of Dar Al-Fatwa in preserving the unity of the Lebanese people in general and the Muslims in particular.

In remarks following his meeting with Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian on Monday, the Interior minister highlighted the Mufti’s continued support to the Internal Security Forces and the Army, saying that this backing would “increase the government’s strength, firmness and determination, and will contribute to overcoming the current crisis.”

“Dar Al-Fatwa, led by Mufti Derian, is the compass in preserving the unity of the Lebanese in general and Muslims in particular,” he stated.

Fahmi said that Derian asked him to protect the peaceful demonstrators, who are calling for improving their living conditions.

“The protection of peaceful demonstrators is my humanitarian and moral duty; we will prevent attacks on them as well as on properties and security forces,” he said.

Underlining his constant cooperation with ISF Director General Major General Imad Othman, Fahmi said: “Security breaches will be dealt with according to the rules and laws in force in order to preserve the right of every citizen.”

The Interior minister also noted that Prime Minister Hassan Diab’s government was working to address the economic, financial and monetary situation in the country.
