Lebanese President Michel Aoun called Sunday for an extraordinary meeting of the Higher Defense Council early next week to discuss the coronavirus outbreak and take the necessary measures to contain its spread in the country.
The meeting, scheduled for Tuesday morning, aims to take the necessary decisions to address the increased number of infections in the country.
On Saturday, caretaker Prime Minister Hassan Diab disclosed that the decision to lockdown the country completely will be taken after reviewing the detailed study he has requested from caretaker Health Minister Hamad Hassam.
Diab stressed that he is not in favor of "hasty decisions" nor "media propaganda."
Diab had asked Hassan for a detailed report on the outbreak, the ability of hospitals to take in new patients, the number of ventilators and available intensive care rooms.
The Health Ministry reported on Sunday of 1,139 new infections, taking the total to 94,236. It also confirmed ten deaths.
In the Palestinian territories, Minister of Health Mai al-Kaila confirmed 549 new infections, three deaths and 444 recoveries in 24 hours.
In her daily coronavirus report, she said the rate of recovery stood at 88.3 percent since the beginning of the outbreak in March.
