Lebanon’s General Security chief Abbas Ibrahim warned on Friday that Israel and terrorist groups have recruited dozens of agents over the internet.
He demanded that academic curricula be updated to tackle the “cyber world” and cyber threats, “whose dangers are developing rapidly.”
He made his remarks at the launch of a campaign, sponsored by Interior Minister Rayya al-Hassan, aimed at raising awareness on the dangers of cyber-security.
Children are most vulnerable to cyber-crimes given that their innocence makes them easy targets for blackmail, she said.
She underscored the need to protect personal data, saying that the government is “very seriously” about tackling cyber-security and has included it in its policy statement.
Ibrahim, for his part, said that anyone could fall victim to cyber-crime, revealing that initiatives will be presented in the future to address this issue at schools and civil society.
