Amid calls to uncover the murderers of prominent Hezbollah critic, Lokman Slim, resigned MP Marwan Hamadeh revealed on Sunday that he had received death threats two weeks ago.
“Threats have not stopped for years and I have reported all of them to the Prosecutor of the International Court. The last threat I received was a few weeks ago,” Hamadeh told Lebanon's MTV channel.
Lebanese security forces have found the body of Slim shot to death after he went missing Thursday night in the country's southern region, which is controlled by Hezbollah.
“The kidnapping and crime took place in Hezbollah's area, so either they participate in the detection, or the crime will be political because they do not accept the other opinion,” Hamadeh said.
He added that Slim had become a Shiite burden and had turned from a free voice to a "voice of burden" for Hezbollah.
“What happened to Lokman Slim is very similar to what happened with his predecessors for the sake of free speech,” Hamadeh said, stressing the need to form a government to save the country.
On Sunday, Metropolitan bishop of Beirut, Elias Audi also condemned Slim’s assassination.
“Why silence people, eliminate free voices and suppress people's calls? You don't win by killing and silencing people, on the contrary, it's a sign of weakness," he said.
Slim's sister, Rasha, said that no one from the investigative team or authorities had contacted the family since the assassination.
“I have learned about my brother’s assassination from television reports. No Lebanese official had bothered to contact us during this phase,” she said, adding that German Ambassador to Lebanon, Andreas Kindl, was the first to offer condolences to the family.
