Lebanon’s information minister George Kordahi submitted his resignation to President Michel Aoun and Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Friday, the Voice of Lebanon radio station reported.
In Thursday remarks to local media outlets, Kordahi announced that he plans to step down on Friday.
“I am going to submit my resignation from the government on Friday,” AFP quoted the minister as saying.
In a press statement on Thursday evening, Kordahi said his decision came after “consultations with the allies.”
His remarks came after a meeting he held with Mikati on Wednesday.
Kordahi’s resignation comes weeks after televised remarks he made about the war in Yemen which sparked a new crisis between Lebanon and Gulf countries.
Before announcing his decision, Kordahi had reportedly held talks with President Michel Aoun.
The Marada Movement, which nominated Kordahi as minister, is looking for an alternative to succeed him.
Until a replacement is chosen, Minister of Education Abbas Al-Halabi, is expected to be the acting Minister of Information.
