Lebanese Health Minister Hamad Hassan reported 35 Covid-19 cases found in a nursing home, stressing the need for an effective and efficient approach to prevent a high number of deaths.
During a meeting of the Scientific Committee for the Follow-up of Covid-19 Outbreak on Monday, Hassan emphasized the cooperation between the ministry, the Committee and the World Health Organization representative office in Lebanon to counter the challenges represented in the increasing number of daily cases.
“There is a challenge that the Ministry of Public Health faces with the Scientific Committee and the World Health Organization, which is the presence of about 35 cases in a nursing home,” the minister said.
“Work is underway to define an effective and efficient intervention that prevents the recording of a high number of deaths,” he added.
Another challenge, according to Hassan, is the infections among foreign workers of different nationalities, in addition to the death of two persons in their 30s.
This is “dangerous and indicates the need to abide by the quarantine measures and to increase transparency between the people infected and the specialized teams in the Ministry of Public Health,” Hassan emphasized.
On a different note, the minister announced that an amount of LBP 15 billion was earmarked from the state budget to support 10 governmental hospitals in various regions, with the aim of enabling them to better face the Covid-19 pandemic.
