Lebanese President Urges More Efforts to Repatriate Syrian Refugees

Lebanese President Michel Aoun urged world powers to "make all efforts" to enable Syrian refugees to return home, regardless of any political solution to the war there.

This came during the Arab Economic and Social Development summit held in Beirut on Sunday.

Aoun also proposed an initiative that includes the establishment of an Arab bank for reconstruction and development.

“I call on the Arab parties to meet in Beirut to discuss the Arab Bank’s reconstruction initiative,” he said.

During the summit, leaders will discuss the devastating consequences of wars and conflicts on the peoples of the region.

In his opening remarks, Anoun apologized for the other Arab leaders who were unable to attend.

Only two heads of state — from Qatar and Mauritania — attended the summit.
