In order to prevent subsidized fuel from being smuggled into Syria, Lebanese authorities will allow fuel tankers to move on the road between 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the area around Lebanon’s borders with Syria.
After a meeting called for by the Caretaker Prime Minister to discuss the issue of fuel smuggling with the concerned ministers and security leaders, it was decided that the Ministry of Energy and Water would bind all parties concerned to prepare two inventories: the first with the names of gasoline distributors, and the second with the names of the gasoline stations and other recipients.
They are also required to supplement the two inventories with information about the volume of consumption, and the weekly average in previous years.
It was agreed that the Ministry of Energy and Water, upon completion of the two listings, would instruct importers and distributors not to exceed the rate of distribution and quantities mentioned therein. Ensuring compliance and legal action against violators will be coordinated with the Ministry of Economy and Trade.
The Minister of Energy and Water, Raymond Ghajar, was called on to immediately implement the provisions of a decree allowing for the confiscation of all fuel products, equipment, facilities, and transportation means, including stations and the labor needed to secure the supply of oil to the public.
