Lebanese Interior Ministry Orders Halt to Events Held by Pro-Terror Bahrain Groups

Lebanese Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi demanded on Thursday that the Internal Security Forces and General Security urge a local hotel against hosting a group of Bahraini activists whom Manama has said support terrorism.

The activists have not received the necessary legal permits to hold their event, added Mawlawi.

The minister ordered that information be gathered over the organizers and supporters of the event, as well as the invitees.

Invitations had been circulated for two events scheduled for February 11 and 14 at the al-Saha Hotel, which is located on the Airport Road.

Mawlawi had warned that should the events by held, they would be an offense to Bahraini authorities and the Arab Gulf, thereby hampering efforts by the Lebanese state to mend relations with the Gulf.

Kuwait had launched an initiative last month with the aim of mending ties and Lebanon has committed to implementing it.

Mawlawi said he took his decision on Thursday after consulting with Prime Minister Najib Mikati.

In December, Bahrain had filed a strongly-worded complaint to the Lebanese government after Beirut hosted a press conference for "hostile elements that have been designated as terrorism sponsors and that have been promoting harmful claims" against the kingdom.
