Leaving Cert students won't lose marks after error spotted in Maths paper

State exam authorities confirmed that an error was made in the Irish-language version of Leaving Cert Maths Paper 2.

The mistake in Question 8(b) of Monday's paper led to massive confusion amongst students. The English version of the paper was unaffected.

The State Examinations Commission has reassured students that they won't lose marks due to error.

A spokesperson said: "This error may have been a cause of confusion for candidates which is regretted by the State Examinations Commission (SEC).

"The SEC operates within the core principle that candidates cannot be disadvantaged as a result of an error on an examination paper.

"As outlined in the protocol, this will be taken fully into account when marking the work of candidates who answered the paper through Irish.

"The marking scheme will, as usual, be published along with those in all other subjects after the issue of results."
