Leaving Cert exams 2020: Alternative testing methods discussed but no decision at latest meeting

No decision has been made on what will happen with the Leaving Cert 2020 after a meeting this afternoon.

Various stakeholders attended a meeting with Minister for Education Joe McHugh where the exams were discussed.

Alternative methods of assessment were put forward but no definitive decision was agreed at the sit down.

The group continued its discussions on the practicalities of holding the Leaving Certificate examinations while maintaining social distancing measures.

Speaking afterwards, Minister McHugh said: "I want to thank the members of the group for their ongoing engagement and support for the work on hand.

"Discussions here today will assist in making decisions regarding arrangements for the Leaving Certificate that have students’ best interests at heart and that are guided at all times by the public health advice."

It remains the plan that the exams will go ahead on July 29th, subject to public health advice.

And the Minister still wants schools to bring in exam students for two weeks before they begin to help them prepare.
