An official announcement is expected to be given on the Leaving Cert on Friday after an emergency meeting.
The National Public Health Emergency Team is meeting again today and will make a final decision on the exam.
The Government has acted swiftly on everything the respected experts have recommended so far, so it is their view that will drive the Government’s decision on the exams.

The NPHET have been meeting all morning and their findings will drive what the Government will decide in relation to the Leaving Cert.
The official announcement is likely to come in the afternoon some time once all the options have been assessed.

What is expected?
But no final decisions will be taken until they hear the public health safety advice from NPHET first.
Assistant Secretary at the Department of the Taoiseach, Liz Canavan, provided an update in Government Buildings.
She said: “As the Taoiseach and the Minister for Education have both emphasised, the Government is focused on running both sets of State exams, the Junior and Leaving Certs.
“The minister has also said he would prefer to see students get at least two weeks' class time in school before anyone has to sit any exams.
“We know that students and their families need clarity on this, and we know you are feeling a lot of pressure.
“We’re asking you to keep studying and to keep focused."
