Leaves change color on Hokkaido mountain as autumn arrives in Japan

Autumn-colored leaves and snow cover Mt. Kurodake and its surroundings in Kamikawa, Hokkaido, on Friday. The 1,984-meter-high mountain is located in the Daisetsuzan mountain range, which is known for having the earliest color change of leaves in Japan. The leaves of such trees as mountain ash and Erman's birch have begun changing color around the summit of Mt. Kurodake three to five days earlier than usual, according to local tourism company Rinyu Kanko Co.
