Leave your tributes to the Queen in our online book of condolence

Following the announcement of the death of Her Majesty the Queen, the nation is at a standstill. Buckingham Palace confirmed that she passed away peacefully at Balmoral in Scotland on Thursday afternoon.

A much loved and respected figure across the globe, Her Majesty leaves behind a great legacy as Britain’s longest reigning monarch and tributes have already poured in from around the world.

Do you have a memory of a time you met Her Majesty, or something that touched your heart you would like to share? Perhaps a more general message of sympathy at the news of her passing. If so, please feel free to light a virtual candle and leave a message for her and her family on our tribute page.

Her Majesty spent seven decades on the throne, surpassing Britain’s longest-reigning monarch Queen Victoria, her great-great grandmother. She succeeded her father George VI on February 6, 1952, with her coronation held at Westminster Abbey on June 2, 1953.

A charitable, kind and determined young princess, she travelled across the world on Commonwealth tours, and joined the women’s branch of the British Army (the Auxiliary Territorial Service or ATS) aged 18 during WWII, training as a mechanic during her armed forces service.

Her natural progression to leader and Queen was welcomed, and she proved a strong female figurehead, maintaining relations with the 56 Independent Commonwealth countries and striving to keep the British monarchy moving with the times during periods of great social change.

Her Majesty was married to Prince Philip for more than 70 years until his death in April, 2021, aged 99.
