Chappell Roan’s Latest Viral Snap At The Paps Has Divided Celebs

Musician Noah Kahan has officially joined the Chappell Roan fan club, but not everyone is jumping in.

After Chappell went viral for filming paparazzi and autograph resellers who followed her on the streets of Paris while she tried to go to dinner, Noah jumped on Instagram Stories to back her in a big way.

In the video that kicked this all off, Chappell is seen beside a car, surrounded by people with cameras and glossy photos. She turns her phone on them and says, “When you’re disregarded as a human, this is what it’s like. I’m just trying to go to dinner, and I’ve asked these people several times to get away from me.”

Panning across the crowd, she adds, “These are all the people who are completely disregarding all of my boundaries”, and makes it clear she won’t be signing anything.

That’s where Noah steps in. Sharing a headline about the incident, he wrote on his Story: “Maybe they should just idk leave her alone? Also those dudes saying ‘I’m a huge fan’ following her around are scalpers and are as bad as the paparazzi. F*ck em all.”

In a follow-up video, he explains he’s talking about professional autograph hunters who track celebrities’ movements and pretend to be supporters.

“These people literally find out where you’re staying, where you’re flying into, where your team, family, lover’s staying, and they are clearly not your fans,” he says.

“They just sit outside places and try to guilt you into signing shit so they can sell it… They’re scummy, they’re manipulative, they’re parasitic, and yeah, f*ck ’em. Seriously, f*ck them… They’re not fans. They’re just businessmen trying to use human beings for profit and for their own gains. So they can get bent — eat f*cking nails.”

Not everyone in the industry is taking quite the same line, though. Boy George weighed in on X with a more old‑school take on fame after watching the same Paris clip. “I watched @ChappellRoan filming the paps in Paris and I laughed because I have kicked off at them many times,” he wrote.

“The trick is to own your fame. Yes, it’s annoying at times but so is being ignored and told your a ‘has-been.”

He told her to “cheer up girl”, arguing that “The world is at your feet stop kicking it!” and summed up his view with, “It takes so much more time to say no to a picture or a signature. Boundaries are boring. Break them with the magic of kindness!”

The whole thing has reignited the usual discourse about what famous people “sign up for” versus, you know, basic safety and respect.

But, it’s clearly not just Chappell dealing with this kind of attention in Paris right now: Dua Lipa and Callum Turner were recently filmed asking paps to leave them alone outside a restaurant, with Dua saying “we’re not doing this” as they tried to dodge cameras on what was supposed to be a quiet night out.

Chappell, for her part, has already shown she’s willing to call this behaviour out in real time. At the 2024 VMAs, a photographer told her to “shut the f*ck up” on the red carpet, and she immediately shot back, “Don’t. Not me, b*tch!” in a moment that quickly went viral.

She also confronted a photographer at Olivia Rodrigo‘s GUTS World Tour film premiere in 2024 and she said had been “so rude” to her at a Grammys after-party, telling him, “You yelled at me at the Grammy party… I remember. You were so rude to me, and I deserve an apology for that.”

Whatever side of the celebrity–paparazzi debate people fall on, the message from this little corner of pop music feels pretty clear: a bit of space and basic boundaries shouldn’t be a controversial ask.
