Boris is the most disliked men’s name in Britain, according to one in five people with Cedric also coming close to the top of the list, according to a poll of 2,000 people by Paddy Power Bingo. The most disliked female names are Gertrude, Destiny and Clodagh.
On the flip side, there’s lots of love for more traditional names – with George and Harry topping the list of the most liked men’s names, and Charlotte the favourite amongst females.
More than a third of people associate the name Boris with being annoying and boring. But those named Donald win the prize for being associated with boredom, according to 1 in 4.
Danny’s are seen to be the most mischievous and one in five think Tom’s are intelligent. The name Karen has not had the best reputation in recent years either and the new study revealed that it’s the women’s name most associated with being annoying and moody.
A third of those surveyed think that Elizabeth’s are intelligent and one in six think those with the name Elizabeth are reserved. One in ten associate people named Sue as being moody, whereas Lily’s are seen as the happiest.
The study also revealed that over a third believe their name informs their personality, and more than one in ten dislike the name they’ve been given at birth. A Paddy Power Bingo spokesperson commented: “Some people are just born lucky – and a quarter of Brits we surveyed believe the name you are given informs your luck in life.
“The names thought to be the luckiest are Hope, Amber and Felicity, which means luck in Latin, so we’ll be keeping a close eye on customers by those names going forward.”
