Learning to live with Covid-19 must include the end of too many pupils being unnecessarily sent home from schools.
Government regulations are outdated and disruptive to education by requiring full classrooms or huge bubbles to stay away and isolate because of a single virus case.
Regular testing and monitoring, combined with the protection of a vaccination programme that should be extended to
children in secondary schools, is a better answer in almost every way.
Whitehall statistics showed more than 375,000 pupils, about one in every 20, were out of class for Covid-related reasons in England – up 130,000 in a week and quadruple on May.
When kids are sent home needlessly, they do not learn and parents cannot work.
Pupils have missed enough teaching. Keep them at their desks.
Honour heroes

Betrayed by the MoD and ignored by successive Prime Ministers including Boris Johnson, the fighting spirit of our nuclear tests veterans is inspiring.
The Tory Government should think again if it believes these ageing heroes will go away, fall silent and admit defeat. They won’t.
Labour leader Keir Starmer is supporting their campaign for justice, including a battle backed by the Mirror for medals.
When gongs and knighthoods are gifted at least twice a year to celebrities and Tory donors, the continued neglect of Cold War nuclear test veterans is a national scandal.
We’ll not cease until these real heroes are finally honoured.
Roarsome win

England fans and the entire nation can start to believe – and dream – that football might finally be coming home.
After beating Germany in a tournament knockout game for the first time since 1966, the Wembley crowd celebrated last night as
if the Three Lions had already won the Euros.
Bring on Saturday’s crunch quarter-finals.
