Learner driver allegedly tests positive to methamphetamine

The pair (not pictured) were stopped by police in Clarence Park.

An Adelaide learner driver and her supervisor have been caught allegedly driving under the influence of methamphetamine in a busy Adelaide suburb this morning.

South Australian police said a BMW sedan was stopped by a Policing Tactical Unit on Edward Street in Clarence Gardens just before 10:00am this morning for a mobile driver test.

Police said the driver — a 34-year-old woman from Morphettville — was drug tested and allegedly returned a positive result to methamphetamine.

Checks on her licence also revealed that she had a learner's permit.

She was given a direction not to drive for 24 hours.

Police said the supervising passenger — a 39-year-old man from O'Halloran Hill — was also drug tested by officers and allegedly returned a positive result to methamphetamine.

He was also issued with a direction not to drive for 24 hours.

Police said both samples taken would be sent to Forensic Science SA for further analysis.

The incident comes after police allegedly caught a man drug driving with a child sitting on his lap in the Adelaide Hills last week.

Police said a Mount Barker Highway Patrol pulled over a vehicle on North Terrace in Littlehampton — in the Adelaide Hills — at about 5:30pm on Wednesday, October 10 after noticing a young child was sitting on the lap of the driver.

It was alleged that the 39-year-old male driver tested positive for methamphetamine and when police questioned him about his driving, he allegedly stated that it was the child who was driving.

The man was reported for driving in a dangerous manner and failing to ensure the child was wearing a seatbelt.

He was also issued with a driver direction not to drive for 24 hours.
