Carlo Rossi, a web element designer at the Guardian, will make light work of mastering the basics, providing plenty of individual attention to ensure no one is left behind.

Course description

This highly practical one-day course uses a series of exercises to introduce attendees to the fundamentals of building websites and using industry-standard languages HTML5 and CSS3. Topics covered on the day include:

  • What is a website and how is it built?
  • Introducing HTML5 elements, the structure of your website
  • Introducing CSS3, the style of your website
  • Understanding CSS3 positioning and how it's used in the layout of your site
  • Creating and using classes
  • Building navigation and understanding object-oriented programming

PLEASE NOTE: Attendees should bring along a laptop with Text Wrangler for Mac or Notepad ++ for PC installed. Both can be downloaded for free.

Carlo Rossi has 20 years' experience in print and web design. He currently works as a web element designer at the Guardian, and as a freelance web designer.
