Learn to be an YouTube star with Joe Sugg at London's first Vidcon

Visitors to London’s first YouTube expo can learn how to become the next internet star from their online idols.

The four-day VidCon event at ExCeL, starting tomorrow, includes the chance to meet internet celebrities who have used YouTube and other platforms to launch multi-million-pound careers.

VidCon visitors can pay £70 for a “Meet & Greet Lottery”, or stump up for premium seminars with stars such as Strictly Come Dancing’s Joe Sugg.

Sugg, 27, will discuss the success of his channels, which include pranks, reaction and truth or dare videos, with fellow vlogger Caspar Lee as part of a £145 package aimed at “content creators”.

His ThatcherJoe and ThatcherJoeVlogs channels have 8.2 million and 3.7 million subscribers respectively.

According to accounts at Companies House, Sugg’s firm Strawboy had nearly £2.3 million in cash in the last financial year, up from £1.6 million.

Other stars at VidCon include KSI, the rapper and comedian Olajide Olatunji, who has Britain’s second most popular channel with more than 20 million subscribers.

YouTube stars can make money off adverts placed with their vehicles and by promoting brands directly.
