Good news for those curious about a vegan lifestyle. A hybrid series of virtual cooking classes with Singapore's celebrity chefs and panel discussions are presented as part of the "Singapore Vegan Festival", which kicks off this Friday and runs until Sept 5.

Held with the aim to spread awareness about plant-based food products, the third edition of the festival invites people outside the island country to learn new vegan recipes from the comfort of their own kitchen.

There will be four chef masterclasses presented both physically and virtually via Zoom this weekend.

Reputed for his passion for innovative plant-based food, chef Addis Tan will show how to transform humble plants into smoked tomato salad and crab patty wasabi slaw, on Saturday at 12.30pm. Then, learn how to make the components for creating stunning raw vegan éclairs with chef Yin from Malaysia at 2pm.

On Sunday, budding cooks will have a chance to learn from a globally recognised 2-Michelin-star chef Emmanuel Stroobant as he demonstrates how to create an electric plant-based dish of angel hair pasta, mushroom and dashi, at 11.30am.

Then, expect to create a luscious appetiser with executive chef Damian Piedrahita, who has over a decade of plant-based culinary experience. He will show how to prepare avocado camembert roll with lemon foam, garlic and turmeric mayonnaise at 2.30pm.

Vegan entrepreneurs, elite athletes and green revolutionaries will also be among the guest speakers in many panel discussions that are available both online via Zoom and on-site.

Miyoko Schinner, who has recently been recognised by the UN as a "Vegan Revolutionary", and Elysabeth Alfano, one of the foremost plant-based business experts in North America, will share their valuable experiences, insights and knowledge on the topic "Inspiring The Next Generation of Vegan Entrepreneurs", on Saturday at 8am.

Another highlight topic is "Athletic Performance, Recovery And Nutrition On A Plant-based Diet" featuring British runners Fiona Oakes and Pat Reeves and vegan mountaineer Kuntal Joisher from India as speakers. It will take place on Saturday at 3.30pm.

There is no admission fee to the panel discussions. The fee for the virtual cooking class is S$12-15 (294-367 baht). All showtimes appearing in the story are Bangkok time.
