The Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in Thailand will present an "Online Taekwondo Class" via its social media channels every Tuesday at 7pm, running from Aug 31 to Oct 5.
In collaboration with the South Korean embassy, the KCC has constantly promoted taekwondo -- Korea's national martial art -- in Thailand by organising classes, exhibitions and events and supporting taekwondo-related products and competitions.
During the Covid-19 outbreak last year, more than 13,000 students participated in physical taekwondo classes held at the KCC compared with almost 25,000 participants in 2019. This year, the class will go online on Aug 31 and feature an opening remark by Thai national taekwondo team coach, Choi Young-seok, as well as a kick demonstration by Panipak Wongpattanakit, aka Tennis, who recently won a gold medal in taekwondo at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The first three weeks of the online class will feature taekwondo introduction videos with lessons including basic taekwondo movement and self defence, from Aug 31 to Sept 14.
Lessons are conducted by coach Chanatip Sonkham; Ramnarong Sawekwiharee, Thailand's only other taekwondo fighter at Tokyo 2020; and Thanakrit Yodrak, a youth player of the national taekwondo team.
Lessons on taekwondo stretching and gymnastics and taekwondo dance will be presented from Sept 21 to Oct 5. They will be delivered by Jung Sol and Ratchani, both of whom are taekwondo masters based in Bangkok.
The online class will be available via Facebook: koreanculturalcenterTH, Youtube: ThaiKCC and Instagram @kccthailand. There is no admission fee.
