Learn how to cook Michelin star bread at home with recipe from Deanes Eipic chef

As part of our #InThisTogether campaign, Belfast Live is reaching out to support the artists, businesses and charities who are giving back to the community.

We also want to shine a light on the restaurants, cafes and other social spaces which have had to shut due to a nationwide effort to stop the spread of Coronavirus.

As a result of that, we've teamed up with Michelin Star restaurant Deanes Eipic, to bring you some tips on how to make delicious bread from the comfort of your own home.

While many parts of the culinary industry take a break for now, some of Belfast's best chefs have gone out of their way to share their love for cooking - and maybe help those stuck at home in the process!

Alex Greene, who is the Head Chef at Deanes Eipic - and who is due to appear on the Great British Menu on April 15 - has provided us with a straightforward recipe for making his 'Belfast Black Brown Soda Bread.'

Belfast Black Brown Soda Bread recipe:

Ingredients

Coarse Wholemeal Flour - 400g

Plain Flour -100g

Salt - 10g

Bi-Carb - 10g

Seed Mix - 90g

Buttermilk - 380ml

Egg - 1

Black Treacle - 100g

Stout - 100g/ml

- Combine all dry ingredients in a mixing bowl

- Combine all wet ingredients in another bowl

- Before combining both wet and dry mixtures

- Bake at 140 degrees in a greased and floured bun tin or loaf tin.

- Bake for 40min, check if cooked through by poking a skewer/cocktail stick or spoon into the mini soda, which should come out clean.

- Cook for another further 35/40 min if using a loaf tin

- Can be reheated at 200 degrees for 3-4min prior to serving

- Glaze the top with black treacle and dip into the seed mix

Belfast Live's #InThisTogether campaign is about helping out the businesses and creatives who have made our society a better place for years.

Gift cards can be an essential way in which the public can help businesses during a difficult time, it can also be a great present for those whose birthdays fall under this time but who can't go out to celebrate.
