Leandro Trossard set clear Arsenal challenge amid Premier League title verdict

Leandro Trossard's £21million move to Arsenal in the January transfer window has been questioned by former Gunners defender William Gallas.

The Belgian sealed a move to north London towards the end of the winter window as Mikel Arteta and Edu Gasper seeked much needed reinforcements to the Gunners squad. Trossard arrived after falling out with Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi and has already shown promising signs in his first three outings.

Arsenal also added Jakub Kiwior and Jorginho to Arteta's squad in the final weeks of the window to hand the club the best possible chance of lifting their first league title in 19 years. The Gunners are currently top of the Premier League table, five points clear of defending champions Manchester City with a game in hand.

It was widely reported that the north London outfit were interested in signing Mykhailo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk after his dazzling displays in the UEFA Champions League. However, city rivals Chelsea swooped in with a late move and acquired the 22-year-old for an astounding £88m.

Trossard was eventually recruited to conclude Arsenal's attempt to bolster the wide options. However, former Gunners captain Gallas has insisted he isn't sure of the Belgium international's capability of representing a big club.

Speaking to Genting Casino he said: "I don't know if Leandro Trossard is a good signing. He has a big profile like his fellow teammates but the question is, can he lift his level at a big club?

"If it's a good signing, he will help take Arsenal to victory. When you bring players to a big club, they have to play really well, so we need to wait and see what happens."
