Leaked picture appears to show goalkeeper linked with Bristol Rovers in training with Cardiff City

Joe Day's move to Cardiff City appears to be getting closer.

Newport County goalkeeper Day was a player that many Bristol Rovers fans were keen to sign and he was linked with the Gas earlier in the summer.

He is out of contract at Newport and available on a free.

Yet a photo from Bluebirds striker Kenneth Zohore appears to have accidentally confirmed Day is close to moving to the Welsh capital.

Zohore sent social media into a storm when he innocently uploaded a photo of himself in pre-season training - only for fans to point out a player who bears a striking resemblance to Day lying on the floor.

The striker subsequently deleted the photo, perhaps lending credence to the idea that it was Day.

It means Rovers' search for a goalkeeper continues.

They have already signed one this summer in the form of Dutchman Jordi van Stappershoef, but Graham Coughlan is keen to sign a second senior goalkeeper.

Speaking to BBC Radio Bristol, Coughlan said a second keeper would be key to competition.

He said: "I say to all players, not just my goalkeepers, that there's 11 jerseys there and it's your decision, so you go and decide.

"You go and work your socks off and command whatever jersey you want - the opportunity to become the club's number one will be available to him and what he does from there is up to himself.

"We will look to bring in another goalkeeper, a one and a two, and how the one and the two evolves and how it works out will be entirely up to the two goalkeepers to battle it out and find out what position they command."
