Leah's a cut above the rest as she donates her long locks to children's charity

Hairdressers’ salon floors are being filled with falling hair, as customers have their first cut in several months.

But Wishaw stylist Katrina Miller had to be extra careful when she cut the long locks of Leah Brown.

For the kind-hearted 10-year-old schoolgirl is donating her hair to the Little Princess Trust.

The charity makes wigs for children and young people from donated hair donated, providing a vital service to those who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions. They match the hair colour as closely as possible to the child’s own and provide the wigs for free.

Leah decided to donate her lengthy locks following a discussion with her proud mum Julie.

“She was just thinking about getting her hair cut and we spoke about how she could donate it to charity,” Julie told Lanarkshire Live.

“So we decided to donate it to the Little Princess Trust.

“Leah hadn’t heard about the charity before.

“The hair needs to be a minimum of 17cm but Leah’s was longer than 52cm.”

Leah’s hair was carefully cut and bagged when she visited Hair by C.H.A.S in Netherton.

“It’s my mum’s hairdresser, and she took Leah down to get it done,” Julie continued.

“Once she had made the decision she was really quite excited about getting it cut. She’s laid back and doesn’t really get nervous about things. She seems to like it [new hairstyle] and it will save us fighting about it in the morning, when I’m trying to get it brushed”.

Leah, a P6 pupil at St Thomas’s Primary, has no regrets and is looking forward to showing off her new shorter style to classmates when she returns after the holidays.

She said: “It’s short, just under my shoulder but it felt good when it was coming off.”

Leah set up an online fundraiser with an initial target of £50, but she smashed that target and has raised almost £300.
