Leah McCourt vows to return stronger following shoulder surgery

MMA star Leah McCourt has vowed to return stronger after undergoing surgery.

McCourt had an operation on Monday to fix a recurring shoulder injury.

Updating fans on her Instagram account, the Saintfield 27-year-old said: "Surgery In two places in my shoulder. Just out of recovery.

"What’s one more setback on the path to achieving greatness. Adversity has only ever pushed me up ten levels. I know how hard the next few months will be but a big setback to me has always meant bigger comeback.

"This time will be a small sacrifice so I can fulfil my purpose. Thank you god for a successful surgery."

McCourt - who became the first woman to headline a Bellator Europe event back in February - had been planning to emerge from the Covid-19 lockdown with a fight against Janay Harding in October.

That bout was originally scheduled for Bellator London back in May before being cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

She recently told Euro MMA Hub: “I tore my rotator cuff before my first Bellator fight, and then I did three camps on it."

She added: "I’ve been trying to train through it, but I can’t even sleep with the pain, so I need it fixed.”
