Leah McCourt reveals mother's pride that had MMA star in tears ahead of big fight

Leah McCourt has spoken of the mother's pride that reduced her to tears just days out from her big fight at Bellator 267.

Saintfield MMA star McCourt outclassed Jessica Borga at Wembley's SSE Arena last Friday night.

The win stretched the 29-year-old's record to 6-1, and was her sixth victory on the bounce.

In the build-up McCourt went through the process of cutting weight and also had other promotional and media duties to juggle.

Also thrown into the mix was a parent-teacher meeting with her daughter's school.

And McCourt says the tears started flowing after she heard the glowing comments about 11-year-old Isabella.

McCourt said in an interview: "The parent teacher interview made me cry.

"I am emotional anyway during fight week, but the teacher was just saying how Isabella is a special child. She has such a nice way about her, and her presence of people and how she treats people.

"And that's the only comment I ever want. I don't care if she gets every exam wrong and every paper wrong. I just care about who she is as a person, and that's the most important thing to me.

"Never mind fighting, or anything like that.

"So it was definitely very emotional."

McCourt could return to action as early as next month, with the Co Down fighter eyeing up a slot at Bellator 270 which takes place at Dublin's 3Arena on November 5.

She told MMA Junkie: “I just say ‘yes’ to whoever Jude (Samuel) or Mike (Kogan) text me.

“I’ll agree. I don’t care, just as long as I get a fight. Hopefully, it’ll be in Dublin in four weeks. … Yeah, I’m not hurt.

"There’s a bit of sore left but I can definitely fight in four weeks in Dublin."
