Leah McCourt describes cutting her hair off in dramatic weight cut for Bellator Dublin

When Leah McCourt took to the scales on Friday, she was close to missing weight for the biggest fight of her life.

Set to make history and main event Bellator Dublin the next night, when her body stopped releasing water in the final hours of her cut - it called for drastic measures.

And when McCourt tipped 146 pounds, she didn't make it by the skin of her teeth, but rather a hair's breadth.

The Belfast mum jumped from the scales to celebrate with her team, before dispatching off opponent Judith Ruis in last night's spectacular main event at the 3 Arena.

After the fight, McCourt described the drastic weight cut: "I think there's going to be a video released of my weight cut this week, which was a tough 36 hours.

"My body just stopped losing water, I was doing 20 minutes in a bath, 40 minutes in a wrap and only losing .3 (pounds).

"It was horrendous. We were cutting weight for 36 hours and when it came down to weighing in (before the official weigh-in) I was .8 over.

"I had hair extensions in, so I cut my hair. So we ran into the bathroom and everyone start cutting my hair out - there was like 18 minutes to go.

"Everybody was around me cutting my hair extensions out, and it was either keep cutting my hair extensions out or get on the treadmill.

"I was running on the treadmill for like six minutes, and then we ran back into the toilet and everybody kept cutting my hair - I ran back and just made weight with like five minutes to go.

"After the most traumatic week, I was like: 'God hasn't brought me this far to leave me now, we're gonna do it'".

Taking to scoial media this morning, McCourt reflected on a 'surreal' week as her and Ruis became the first women to ever headline a Bellator card in a non title bout.

"We got it done. What a night what a week and what an experience. All glory to god.

"Words can’t describe this week, it’s amazing getting a win but the experience me my family and team had was surreal'.
