League Two clubs 'informal' agreement on October start ahead of SPFL crunch talks

League Two clubs have reached and "informal" agreement to back an October kick-off ahead of a meeting with the SPFL today.

Yesterday League One clubs voted to approve a 27-game programme for the 2020/21 season, with teams playing each other three times, with the Championship sides agreeing to the same proposal.

The bottom tier now look set to follow suit with an October 17 start date on the verge of being green lit, Lanarkshire Live Sport understands.

Furthermore, the plan to merge with League One to form a joint bottom tier looks set to be knocked back with every team agreeing they are able to start the campaign later this year.

A source said: "We will have our divisional meeting today and we have been asked for our votes.

"There has been talks among the clubs and we have reached and informal agreement about October 17 as a start date.

"Going to a 27-game season is by far the most popular. It seems like every club expects to play the season and there won't be any mothballing."
