League Two club eye up loan move for Bristol Rovers forward Tom Nichols

League Two club Cheltenham Town are keen on a move for Bristol Rovers forward Tom Nichols, according to reports.

Bristol Live understands that Nichols has been told he can leave the Mem, with Ben Garner reshaping his squad and bringing in two new attackers in the form of Josh Barrett from Reading and Jayden Mitchell-Lawson from Derby.

And Cheltenham are one of the clubs thought to be eyeing up a loan move for Nichols, reports Gloucestershire Live.

But a move for Nichols may be put on hold due to Cheltenham current goalkeeping crisis.

Boss Michael Duff has had to bring in a replacement for keeper Scott Flinders after the 33-year-old broke his leg in a challenge with Oldham Athletic forward Scott Wilson on the weekend.

And with the replacement being their second signing of the window after the signing of Alfie May from Doncaster Rovers, Duff may be limited as to how many players he can bring in.

Bristol Live understands there are no concrete offers for Nichols on the table yet, with the striker’s representatives exploring options to move this window.

Nichols has had mixed fortunes since his move to the Gas from Peterborough in 2017. Despite receiving plaudits from fans and fellow striker Jonson Clarke-Harris for his work rate and chance creation, his goal record hasn't impressed.

Nichols has scored four goals in 28 appearances for the Gas this season and scored just three the season before, and Ben Garner has now decided that it would be best for the forward to move on.

He's not the only striker thought to be leaving the Mem in January. Victor Adeboyejo is expected to head back to parent club Barnsley after Garner brought in Barrett and Mitchell-Lawson in the week.
