League One transfer gossip: Former Aston Villa striker wanted by Charlton Athletic, Reading, Wigan Athletic, Ipswich Town and Coventry City; Sunderland in for Walsall ace

The League One season kick off in under two weeks, with Football League clubs rushing to conclude their transfer business.

Several of England’s top clubs still have work to do in the summer window as they step up their pre-season preparations for the new campaign.

With that in mind, we’ve collated all the latest rumours and gossip from League One and Two.

Five sides interested in Scottish international

Charlton Athletic, Reading, Wigan Athletic, Ipswich Town and Coventry City have all been linked with interest in former Leeds United and Aston Villa striker Ross McCormack, according to TEAMtalk

The 32-year-old Scotland international is said to be chasing a move in Britain despite offers of a lucrative move to Asia.

McCormack is a free agent after reaching an agreement with Villa earlier this summer for the termination of his contract after a disappointing spell in the Midlands.

The striker has scored nearly 200 goals in his career and still feels he is more than capable of doing a job in the second or third tier in England.

Despite the Sky Blues being in the market for a striker following the departure of Conor Chaplin to Championship side Barnsley, CoventryLive report they are not interested in the Scot.

Sunderland eye League Two midfielder

Sunderland are chasing Walsall midfielder George Dobson as they seek to build a squad fit for promotion this season.

Having missed out on a place in the Championship last season, Jack Ross is bidding to lead the Black Cats to the second tier.

According to The72, Ross fancies the Sadlers’ prodigy, to add a new lease of life into his midfield.

Rotherham agree midfielder fee

Rotherham United have agreed a fee to sign Jamie Lindsay from Ross County, according to Football Insider.

The Millers are in the market for a midfielder following the departure of Will Vaulks and Semi Ajayi.

They’ve been tracking the goal-scoring midfielder for some time now and have now agreed a deal with the Scottish side.

Brentford eye League One defender

Brentford are set to pay £1m for Blackpool defender Marc Bola, according to The Sun.

The Bees have been chasing the young defender, who was previously on the books of Arsenal.

The Tangerines have understandably set a price tag at £1m, with the defender a key man in their side.

Bola made 43 appearances for Blackpool last season.

Salford chase Bradford forward

Bradford City striker Eoin Doyle has attracted interest from Football League newcomers Salford City.

According to the Sun’s Alan Nixon, the big-spending club are looking to add the former Chesterfield striker to their ranks this summer, along with Swindon Town.

The Bantams have already added the experienced Clayton Donaldson and James Vaughan to their forward line, which could pave the way for Doyle to leave.
