League One club owner bluntly rules out move for Nottingham Forest hotshot Tyler Walker

Peterborough United owner Darragh MacAnthony has seemingly ruled out a move for Nottingham Forest striker Tyler Walker.

The 22-year-old blitzed a goal trail at Mansfield Town in League Two this season, netting an impressive 26 goals as the Stags almost won promotion before losing to Newport on penalties in a play-off semi-final.

There’s likely to be no shortage of interest in Walker’s services over the summer, given his exploits at Field Mill, should he be made available again.

But one club that won’t be contacting Forest over his possible availability are Posh, after owner MacAnthony responded to a question on Twitter, about whether or not there would be any interest in Walker.

The Irishman was also asked if the Reds had rekindled their interest in winger Marcus Maddison, and gave a suitably vague answer.

Maddison was widely expected to leave London Road last summer, along with striker Jack Marriott.

Forest were reported to have held an interest in both players, and while Marriott left to join Forest’s arch-rivals Derby, Maddison stayed in Cambridgeshire and is once again being heavily linked with a move to the Championship.

When asked about possible interest from the City Ground club in the 25-year-old winger, the Posh chairman said “no idea if you are.”

Walker, meanwhile, is expected to be given a chance to impress boss Martin O’Neill during pre-season, as the Forest chief assesses his squad ahead of a campaign which the Reds hope will end in promotion.

Should the striker be allowed to leave the City Ground, Walker will have plenty of suitors, with new Stags boss John Dempster keen to have him back at Field Mill.

"I spoke to Tyler this week and wished him well,” Dempster said.

“He spoke really highly of the football club and I would love to have him back next season. I've spoken to him and let him know he would be welcome back next season.

"I thought it was important to touch base with him.”
