League One and Two clubs vote to cancel rest of season, final table decided by points-per-game

Clubs in League One and League Two have formally voted to curtail the remainder of their seasons amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Both leagues have been suspended since mid-March, and while League Two clubs agreed in principle to end the season last month, teams in League One had been more divided over the issue, with some keen to play out the campaign.

Earlier on Tuesday, EFL clubs had overwhelmingly approved plans to retain promotion and relegation, as well as play-off fixtures, using an unweighted points-per-game method should the season not be completed.

The move means that Coventry and Rotherham will be promoted automatically to the Championship and while Tranmere, Bolton and Southend are relegated to League Two.

Oxford, Portsmouth and Fleetwood will contest the play-offs for the final Championship place, alongside Wycombe, who were only eighth when the season was halted but had played a game fewer than the teams in contention above them and make the cut at the expense of Peterborough, who were sixth.

In League Two, Swindon, Crewe and Plymouth will go up to League One while the play-offs will feature Cheltenham, Exeter, Colchester and Northampton. The team finishing bottom of the division will be relegated, providing the 2020/21 National League season is on course to take place as planned. At present, that club would be Stevenage, though Macclesfield Town are in the midst of a disciplinary procedure which could yet see them docked points and finish last.

The Championship is set to resume on June 20 and fulfil all of its remaining fixtures, including the playoffs to decide promotion to the Premier League.
