Riot Games has backed away from plans to bring Last Hit Indicators to League of Legends Ranked queues, following widespread community feedback over the controversial feature.
“We’ve seen a lot of conversation around Last Hit Indicators coming to Ranked, and we’ve decided to enable them in non-Ranked SR queues only for continued testing,” Riot said in a statement shared today on X, confirming that Last Hit Indicators will remain limited to non-Ranked Summoner’s Rift modes in League, while the developer continues gathering player feedback and gameplay data.
The Last Hit Indicator changes a minion’s health bar to white when it can be killed with a basic attack. Riot introduced the feature as an optional tool to help players improve their farming. While some welcomed it as an accessibility feature for newer players who struggle with last hitting, others argued that bringing it to Ranked would reduce the skill expression tied to one of League’s core gameplay fundamentals.
Hey everyone! We’ve seen a lot of conversation around Last Hit Indicators coming to Ranked, and we’ve decided to enable them in non-Ranked SR queues only for continued testing. We want to get more data and feedback to decide if we should make them an option for Ranked before…

Earlier in Patch 26.13, Riot announced it would expand Last Hit Indicators to Normal Draft after seeing positive results in Swiftplay and Co-op vs. AI. According to the developer, newer players using the feature were becoming more successful at securing minion kills and wanted to continue using the tool as they transitioned into more traditional game modes.
At the time, Riot argued that the indicator did not meaningfully reduce skill expression in lane. The developer said players still needed to manage positioning, trade with opponents, track jungle pressure, and understand champion power spikes, all of which remain critical to winning the lane. The developer also noted that many experienced players had already chosen to disable the feature because they found it distracting, but maintained that it should remain available as an optional aid for those who found it useful.
Instead of moving forward with a Ranked rollout, Riot will keep Last Hit Indicators available, but disabled by default, in Swiftplay, Co-op vs AI, and Normal Draft. The developer said the goal is to collect additional data and iterate on the system before deciding whether it belongs in competitive play.
“We want to get more data and feedback to decide if we should make them an option for Ranked before making that call,” the developer explained.
The decision comes after players expressed concerns about the feature’s impact on skill expression. Last hitting has long been considered one of the most crucial skills to master in League, particularly during the laning phase, making any changes to the system a sensitive topic among veteran players who have perfected the skill through muscle memory.
The Ranked queues will remain unchanged for now. The developer says it will continue sharing updates on the feature’s performance and plans through upcoming Dev Updates before deciding whether Last Hit Indicators should eventually become available in League’s competitive modes.
