League of Ireland transfer news: St. Pat's and Cork City announce signings

Stephen O'Donnell reckons Shane Griffin’s capture is a real coup for St Pat’s

The former Reading fullback completed his move to Inchicore today after three seasons with Cork City.

Griffin said: "I'm delighted with this fresh challenge at Pat's. There's a great group of players and staff here.

“From speaking to Stephen, the group is really ambitious to do well and that’s something I want to be part of.”

Saints boss O’Donnell said: "I'm delighted to sign Shane. He’s someone I came up against on the pitch from my time with Dundalk and always thought very highly of him.

“Playing against him, he always impressed me as a great athlete so we’re thrilled to get a player of his calibre into the club.

“He has achieved a lot in the game to date and is hungry and ambitious to achieve more and that’s what we want.”

Griffin made over 80 appearances for the Rebels and new City boss Neale Fenn said: “Everyone at the club would like to thank him for the contribution he has made.”

Elsewhere, ex-Anderlecht and Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Liam Bossin has signed for Cork City.

But the Rebels have released Tadhg Ryan who dislodged club stalwart Mark McNulty towards the end of last season.

City boss Neale Fenn said: “Tadhg did well when he came into the team last season, but he won’t be back for 2020.”

Veteran keeper McNulty remains at the club and is tipped for a player-coach role while City had also explored taking Brendan Clarke from St Pat’s on loan.

But they swooped for Bossin, 23, last night and Fenn said of the former Irish underage international: “I’ve known him from the international scene and kept an eye on him.

“It’s brilliant for us to get a player of his calibre. I’ve spoken to people about him and made sure he’ll be a good fit, so I’m delighted.”

Bossin said: “I’ve played in Turner’s Cross before with Ireland Under 19s. I’m a hard worker and I want to help the club get good results.”
