League of Ireland transfer news: Greg Bolger joins Sligo Rovers while Shelbourne sign Kevin O’Connor

Greg Bolger has been reunited with Liam Buckley at Sligo Rovers while Shelbourne have landed Kevin O’Connor.

Bolger was a free agent after leaving Shamrock Rovers this week and the Bit O’Red have moved for the decorated midfielder.

The Wexford man returned to action two weeks ago after five months out with a broken leg but is raring to go for next season.

He won a league title and FAI Cup under Buckley at St Pat’s in 2013 and 2014 and the pair will join forces at the Showgrounds.

Bolger said: “I looked around and it was always my motivation to join a club with ambition and I still have the ambition to do well.

“I had a bad injury where I was out for five months but I’ll be ready to go to fire on all cylinders come pre-season.”

Sligo boss Buckley is thrilled to land the experienced midfielder and said: “It’s an exciting signing for us.

“Greg has had massive success at many clubs and he’s hungry for more. I’ve worked with him, I know what he brings. He’s a proper pro.”

Meanwhile, Shels have signed former Preston, Cork City and Waterford man O’Connor to aid their promotion push.

Comfortable in defence and midfield, he played under the new Shels assistant Alan Reynolds when he was Waterford boss.

“I was in the First Division when I was younger with Waterford but I’m looking forward to pushing for the title,” he said.

And Shelbourne manager Ian Morris said: “Kevin is a fantastic addition. He has a wand of a left peg, and his use of the ball is excellent.”
