League of Ireland transfer news: Bray Wanderers sign Conor Clifford while Cork City and Waterford announce re-signings

Conor Clifford has left Derry City for First Division promotion hopefuls Bray Wanderers.

Former Chelsea starlet Clifford has played for Dundalk, Limerick, St Pat's and Derry since returning from England in 2017.

The 29-year-old Dubliner made nine starts for the Foylesiders in 2020 and 12 appearances overall in the 18 game season.

Bray came close to automatic promotion, finishing a point off table-toppers Drogheda United before losing 1-0 at home to Galway in the play-off semi-finals.

In Premier Division news, Shane Griffin can't wait to work with new Waterford FC boss Kevin Sheedy after signing back for the new season in 2021.

The local-born midfielder came through the club's underage system, making his senior Blues debut after winning the under-19 league title.

“I’m delighted to be back for this season," said Griffin, who celebrates his 21st birthday on Thursday.

"I’ve heard some great things about the new management team so I’m hugely looking forward to trying to impress them and holding on to my place in the squad.

"By the looks of things, there could be serious competition for places so it’s certainly exciting. Just anxious to get in now and get training".

Meanwhile, new Cork City boss Colin Healy has secured the services of Cian Coleman, Dale Holland, Ronan Hurley and Beineón O’Brien-Whitmarsh for the club's push to secure a swift return to the top flight.

Coleman, who played for City at underage level before moving to Cobh, Limerick and St Pat's before returning to the Leesiders last term, said: “I am delighted to sign back with City.

"Having spoken to Colin, I know what he wants to do and it’s something I want to be a part of.

"We will have a young, hungry squad that will give everything for the club, and I can’t wait to get started.”

And Hurley remarked: “I’m from Cork, I’m a Cork City fan and last year hurt me, so I want to play my part in bringing the club back to where it should be”.
