League of Ireland clubs have been told by the FAI that matches will no longer be postponed due to Covid-19 cases for the remainder of the season.
Mirror Sport understands that new guidelines have been circulated to clubs, with an official FAI communication laying out methods to avoid the spread of the virus.
Among them is a pod system which recommends that players are grouped so that close contacts are reduced.
The news will likely leave clubs sweating over potential virus cases. However one club source told Mirror Sport their view was that completing the season should be a priority - even if it means teams must avail of depth in their panels to get the 2020 campaign over the line.
The season has already been extended due to coronavirus disruptions, with the Premier Division now wrapping up on Sunday, November 8 and the final round of First Division games taking place next Tuesday.
The promotion/relegation play-off final is down for November 14.
Premier Division fixtures involving St Pat's and First Division games featuring Galway United have been rescheduled due to Covid, and last Thursday night, Shamrock Rovers had three league games postponed due to a number of positive cases and close contacts.
Their next game is against Derry City at Tallaght Stadium next Wednesday and a win will seal the Premier Division title.
Bohemians could hand the title to their fierce rivals before that, with anything less than a win against Finn Harps this Saturday meaning the Hoops would be crowned champions.
